Agitating employees, govt fail to reach agreement on salary demands

Failing to reach an agreement, the talks between the government and the agitating government employees have been postponed until Saturday. The talks held at the Ministry of Finance this afternoon could not arrive at a conclusion with both sides not budging on their respective stances.

The ministerial team led by Finance Minister Surendra Pandey reiterated the government version that Rs 5.20 billion allocated for allowances would cover the salary increment as demanded by the agitating government employees while employees stuck to the demand for Rs 5000 raise. Both the sides agreed to sit for more talks on Saturday and expressed hope to find a solution.The government and the civil servants' unions had sat for talks Thursday as well. The cabinet has already given nod to increase salary, giving the responsibility to determine the rate of increment to Finance Minister Pandey.
