Cabinet finalises team, approves agenda for PM's India visit


The cabinet has finalised a 64-member team to accompany Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal during his five-day official tour to India beginning Tuesday. A cabinet meeting held at the PM's office Singha Durbar, Monday morning also approved the agenda of the visit. According to information minister Shankar Pokharel, the visiting team includes PM Nepal's spouse Gayatri Nepal, foreign minister Sujata Koirala, tourism and civil aviation minister Sharat Singh Bhandari, energy minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, commerce and supplies minister Rajendra Mahato, finance minister Surendra Pande, industry minister Mahendra Prasad Yadav and vice-chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) Yuvraj Khatiwada.

With the ministers, PM Nepal's aides and security officers, bureaucrats, businessmen and journalists, the official team will be 64-member strong, one of the largest teams during a PM's foreign visit in the history of Nepal. In addition, more than a dozen businessmen and some journalists will accompany PM Nepal to New Delhi in their personal expenditure. Likewise, the agenda of the visit includes informing India on the progress of peace and constitution drafting process, signing a bilateral trade and commerce treaty, and discussing bilateral issues including water resources, border and environment. lthough Pancheshwar multi-purpose project will be discussed during the visit, no specific agreement will be signed on this.

The main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) had warned the government not to sign any agreement on Pancheshwar without their consensus
